Photofacial IPL

Everyone has been there. You look in the mirror and wonder, “What happened to my skin?”

Maybe you could’ve taken better care of your skin or stayed out of the sun more often. In any case, there are still ways that you can make your skin look younger and healthier.

One way to do this is called IPL photorejuvenation. It reduces the appearance of capillaries, sun damage, redness, discoloration and brown spots.

What Is Photorejuvenation?

The word photorejuvenation comes from the Greek photo for light, the Latin prefix re- meaning back or again, and the Latin juvenis meaning young.

Together, photorejuvenation means using light to look young again. One method of this treatment is called IPL photorejuvenation.

How does IPL work?

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. Intense doesn’t mean the light will harm your skin. It just refers to how much light is used in terms of luminous intensity.

Pulsed means that the light shines intermittently instead of continuously. This treatment uses a laser to control how and where the light reaches your skin carefully.

The laser shines at the resonant frequency of either hemoglobin or melanin. This means that it will purposefully damage these types of cells. But it leaves the rest of your skin unharmed.

Targeting hemoglobin means blood vessels that show just beneath the surface of the skin will disappear. Targeting melanin means discolorations such as freckles or age spots will disappear.

This laser photorejuvenation disrupts these types of cells so your body can absorb them, and they will no longer appear on your skin.

Pros and Cons of IPL

There are many pros and cons of IPL photorejuvenation treatment. The main pro is that IPL photorejuvenation results in your skin looking younger and feeling healthier.

Another big pro is the photorejuvenation cost. It is comparatively cheap at around $150 per treatment. But it may also depend on your particular skin, especially which part of your body needs treatment.

The main con is the amount of time it takes to get the full effect of this treatment. Although each treatment only takes a few minutes, most people need three to five treatments spread out over a few months.

This means it could take up to five months, depending on your case’s severity, to get the full effect

Another small con is the possible side effects of this treatment. Because this process doesn’t remove any skin, it is very safe and painless. However, it can cause discomfort in some people.

It can also result in slight bruising or scabbing, but these go away quickly. Another pro is that photorejuvenation aftercare is simple.
