Microdermabrasion is a salon and spa staple because it’s affordable, it’s accessible, and it’s minimally invasive.

If you’re suffering from embarrassing acne, age spots, or wrinkled skin, it might be just what you’ve been looking for!

Are you curious about microdermabrasion and want to know if it’s right for you?

What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a procedure designed to replenish your skin’s natural tone and renew its texture at the same time. It will improve your skin’s look and reduce the appearance of things like acne scars, fine lines, sun damage, large pores, or wrinkles.

During the treatment, the thick outer layer of your skin is sanded away very gently with a special tool. Removing this outer layer allows the skin to heal and become rejuvenated all at once.

Microdermabrasion is done on your face, neck, and chest and is safe for almost all skin types. It is not painful and should not be uncomfortable.

You can get this treatment done at a spa, like Beauty Factory Spa, with licensed professionals for the best results. It will take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes to complete.

How Should You Prepare

Because microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive treatment, there isn’t much that you need to do to prepare for it.

You should talk about the procedure with your licensed professional before it’s done to determine if it’s the best choice for you. You should bring up things like past cosmetic treatments or surgeries, as well as allergies or medical history before the treatment starts.

For about seven days before your treatment, you may want to avoid exposure to the sun, false tanning lotions, and face waxing. It may also be a good idea to limit your skincare products and stay away from exfoliants or masks before the treatment.

You may need to avoid sun exposure, tanning creams, and waxing for about a week before treatment. You might also want to stop using exfoliating creams and masks approximately three days prior to treatment.

Remove any makeup and cleanse your face before the procedure begins.

What to Expect After the Treatment

Following treatment at Beauty Factory Spa, we use a cool mask to help with hydration and pump nutrients back into your skin.

While you can go back to your daily routine following the treatment, you will want to use sunscreen to avoid sun damage. Remember that microdermabrasion removes a layer of your skin, so it is especially vulnerable for at least a few days following the treatment.

You may also want to hold back on using any acids, including alpha hydraulic acid or salicylic acid, for a few days. These types of products may sting.

Some side effects you may experience include swelling, redness, tenderness, or slight bruising. These won’t last long if they do happen and go away on their own without additional treatment.

Use a rich moisturizer once you have thoroughly dried the skin. Continue to use it for 4-6 days after your treatment as this will prevent any excessive peeling.
